MEDIA ALERT
July 7, 2015 (Florence, KY) Beckfield College is celebrating a National Championship – or really four National Championships! That’s right – Northern Kentucky’s own Beckfield College just earned four national first place awards at a national business competition. Three Beckfield College business students and graduates, along with one instructor, participated in the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference and Business Competition held in Chicago over the last weekend of June and brought home major victories.
Beckfield College had three students and graduates and an instructor qualify in various categories. Each of these participants either won or placed second in six of these categories, beating out the competition from major schools such as University of Florida, University of Wisconsin, Rutgers University, California State University and more. Ed Villaverde (Independence, KY), James Massengale (Price Hill/Cincinnati, OH), and Shawna Raines (Crescent Springs, KY) all participated successfully in a state competition in Kentucky in April that qualified them for the national competition. Full News Release below.
Beckfield College will be celebrating these national awards at a campus celebration on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. at the Florence, KY Campus at 16 Spiral Drive in Florence Northern Kentucky.

More than 1600 participants from across the United States were in attendance for this conference to sharpen their core business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 55 business and business-related competitive events.
“We couldn’t be more proud of these students and our instructor,” acknowledged Diane Wolfer, college president. “These students came through our doors with life heavy on their shoulders to pave a new future through education. To witness this success at the national level is a credit to each of them, their determination, perseverance, and their talent!”
Because more than 60% of Beckfield College’s student body is non-traditional and older than 25 years of age, their mature engagement and understanding of skills application was clearly translated into their successful results at the national competition.
“I have made lifelong friends, developed an unprecedented level of confidence, and have become a better leader, all because of the opportunities provided to me by PBL and Beckfield College. I love my school and my club and, although I have graduated, I will continue to promote the virtues of both for as long as anyone will listen to me,” James Massengale, participant and national champion in 2014 and 2015.
“Beckfield College instructors have done more than just educate us. They have gone out of their way to prepare us to take what we have learned in class and utilize our knowledge and skills on a professional level. The faith and pride upper management, instructors, and staff members have for the students reinforces my pride I have as an alumni of Beckfield,” noted Shawna Raines, 2015 graduate and recent Graduate Speaker at Beckfield College’s Spring Commencement.
In an era of colleges closing and a government focused on showcasing results, Beckfield College continues to thrive and deliver success for students and the community.
“I feel our recent successes are the culmination of Beckfield College’s commitment to our students and the business programs,” noted business instructor and national winner in the professional division, Scott Smith.
