Practical Nursing Student at Beckfield College!
Symone is currently enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at Beckfield. Read below to find out about her favorite courses, and advice for staying focused in nursing school.
What are your favorite courses?
My favorite course so far was the Maternal OB and PEDS course or PNR102. The class was really engaged and the two instructors, Dean Katz, and Dr. Meier were awesome at teaching the course and really breaking it down for our understanding.
Who are your favorite instructors?
Dean Katz because she really knows her stuff when it comes to nursing. She comes off hard but she is truly caring and has the most amazing passion for nursing that I have ever seen from any nurse. I also choose Professor Ellis because she too is very kind, extremely relaxed, and makes you feel comfortable right away. Also if you ever get the pleasure of meeting her you’ll see she’s pretty funny!
Who are your biggest supporters?
My biggest supporter right now is my family. From my parents and siblings to my boyfriend and children. I’d also say myself, as I am what keeps the dedication and commitment to nursing school takes going.
Why Beckfield?
I chose Beckfield College because my sister graduated from the LPN program here and had an awesome review. Plus Beckfield is one of the schools that have high success rates in passing the NCLEX which is really important. It shows that through all the hardship one may encounter during nursing school, students are passing and actually becoming licensed.
What attracted you to the field of nursing?
My mom originally, as she started off as an RN and moved to an NP. Her dedication was and still is admirable. Having a family and children of my own has pushed me into wanting to deliver babies and helping moms as a midwife.
Advice to new students?
My advice to new students is that anything you want to do, you can do. Do not let anyone put a ceiling over your limits, because beyond that there is no limit. The journey may seem tough at first but you can do it by working hard, creating a plan at the start of each quarter, and elevating each time. You only fail when you quit.
